The Sisters

mMelissa

Hi! My name is Melissa. I am in my 40’s and can say without hesitation, that I am happier than I have been in a long time. I don’t know why it takes us so long to find our happy, but for most of us, it just does. I am a divorced mother of two, a full-time leader at a company I love, a certified yoga instructor, an entrepreneur, and an avid (-when-I-make-the-time) reader. I am a dreamer and a doer. I guess you could say I don’t sit still well. Even as a stay-at-home mom, I became a business owner and founded a non-profit organization.

I am a recovering workaholic who finally chose to dedicate my time to work I love that would allow me to spend more time with my family. As a parent, it  has become important to me to model a healthier work/life balance, instead of the suffocating, choke-the-life-out-you work that I immersed myself in for much of my career. With that said, I have a million business ideas, and am currently building a couple of them in addition to my full-time job and life as a mom. I finally found a modus mom/us operandi that works for me.

I have battled several health issues, including: Scoliosis, Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, Lyme disease, Multiple Chemical Sensitivity and severe mold allergies. I am working on healing my gut to reduce my symptoms. I am currently gluten-free, dairy-free and, on most days, sugar-free. I am not perfect, but I stick to that pretty consistently. I have a body full of metal, thanks to the Scoliosis, and have undergone multiple surgeries throughout my life for a variety of reasons. My health issues have weighed me down sometimes, but as you’ve probably guessed, it has yet to really slow me down.

I live in Central Florida with my two children, G (9yo boy) and K (6yo girl). I can’t wait to get to know you! Grab a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, get comfortable, and let’s have a heart-to-heart.

Although an “East Coaster” for the first 38 years of my life, I now I reside in the Pacific Northwest and love everything about it. I find the cool rain refreshing and the abundant cloudy days perfect for curling up with a book or even going for a walk with some good tunes. And the times when the sun chases away the clouds, the mountain views are so spectacular that it was well worth the wait to see them.

As if work and raising a family didn’t keep me busy enough, I also aspire to be a writer. In addition to this blog, I have umpteen ideas banging around in my brain for novels I want to write and actually just finished writing my first! It’s a middle grade fantasy novel which I hope gets published, but if not I am glad to have written it.

In addition to writing, reading is also one of my favorite past times. Without books, I would be lost. I read anything from cheesy romances to World War II submarine stories to nail-biting thrillers or epic adventures. I definitely prefer fiction to non-fiction books, but will fess up to a major cookbook addiction. In recent years, I have also read a lot of health-related books lately as I have suffered from digestive issues for the last 6 years. Although I have improved, I am not out of the woods yet. It’s ironic… I’m a foodie, now with more food issues than I can count. I love food and always have. I also have a life-long passion for baking which has shifted over the years from dairy- and sugar-laden treats to healthier concoctions. See my health story for more in-depth, but hopefully not too disgusting, details about my struggles and successes along the road to wellness.

I have never written a blog before, but I am excited to embark on this new adventure with my sister, Melissa. We now live a continent apart, but we will always be close and I’m glad to have this blog as an excuse to “rap” with her about a variety of topics that we find interesting and that we hope others will too.

Chat with you all soon!
